Bias in the media: Volume #3257891 UPDATED

The following was filmed on April 28, 2007 at Mason Park where the US Border Watch was holding an anti-immigration rally. The camera crew was from KPRC Channel 2.

Make sure and let KPRC know what you think of this
.

UPDATE:
Reportedly, the videographer has been "disciplined", but just what sort of discipline he has received is a mystery. I have tried to contact Skip Valet, the news director of KPRC for an answer as to whether the videographer is still in the employ of KPRC but I was directed to a voice mailbox when I told the person answering the news desk phone that I wished to speak to him concerning the incident. We'll see if I get a response.

I don't understand why you're upset. What does it matter if he was displaying a Mexican flag on his camera? Why do you feel threatened?

Are Thunder's comments intended to be racist? Why bring up the question of the camerman's nationality? Why would he assume he's not an American?

OK anon, I'll break it down for you.

The news media is supposed to be unbiased. They are supposed to be taught that in J school. This guy shows up at an anti-illegal immigration rally, with a Mexican flag on his camera. He is announcing to the world that he is at the least sympathetic to illegal Immigrants, if not possibly openly hostile to the agenda of the people holding the rally. He has stopped being an impartial observer and has injected himself into the debate. That violates every tenet of Journalism.

As to the cameraman's nationality, when you take the oath of citizenship you vow to forsake all loyalty to any other country. By flying a Mexican flag, he is showing that he has not forsaken loyalty to Mexico and is therefore rejecting and violating the tenets of citizenship. Even if he were a native born citizen of the USA, the spirit of citizenship demands that he not show loyalty or fealty to a foreign sovereign. Doing so puts him at the theoretical risk of having his citizenship revoked. Lindh, the American Taliban had his citizenship revoked for acting as an enemy combatant. A case could be made that showing loyalty to a foreign power could put him at risk of doing the same (although the likelihood of that happening is virtually nil, I will admit.)

I do not feel threatened by his actions, but it does anger me that he would inject himself into the debate while the media tries to insist that it is not biased.
