Yet another reason why HB2564 should be VETOED!

In Dallas, a DISD employee has admitted to ringing up over $100,000 in personal expenses to her district issued credit card in the last three years. But what is worse, she is not the only one, 5 other employees are under investigation and it would appear about half of the district's 1200 district supplied credit cards have some questionable charges made. Dallas Morning News had to sift through over 155,000 credit card transactions to sort this mess out, I bet there was more than 36 hours of records preparation needed on the part of DISD.

The discovery of this was by a blogger... yes that is correct a blogger. It was reported and took nearly a year for BIG MEDIA to pick up on the story when it was discovered the one employee had charged $378,000 on the DISD credit card and at all places the PX EXCHANGE (military base). Was there more than 36 hours involved in this discovery?

Perhaps little discoveries like this is why the ISDs pushed this legislation.... MORE OPEN RECORDS REQUESTS WILL REVEAL WHO COMMUNICATED WITH SENATORS AND HOUSE MEMBERS... let us see what we find!

Let's not forget that the TSU scandal was discovered by three TSU students and they were kicked out of TSU and their lives put through the wringer before they got anybody in the Media to listen (not for a lack of trying either!). And this scandal is AT LEAST as big as Priscilla Slade's shenanigans.

The big question is wilst BIG MEDIA eat one of it's own? Doubtful, they will just pull the boy back into the engine room and smile at him... consult Captn Jack Sparrows Magic Anywhere you Wana Go Compass... and return him to the controls with a smile upon his face.

Just enough time to let this blow over and they will just keep the blankets over his head and out of view....

The question is will the Governor fall into the trap or is he smart enough to see through it? We shall see....

Rorschach, When elected politicians take it upon themselves to support or oppose a bill based upon the crowd in Austin, then they are falling victim of the very reasons that we sent them up there in the first place. One would think at least that your own Senator and House member would consult their constituents before voting on a bill that they are hearing rumors in the wind about.

For any elected member to shut you or any of the ones that got them there in the first place is inexcusable. Remind them of that at the next election and at points between then and now.

The poor and ignorant new comers thing that they are making the might decisions of their lifetime, when they can not see the big picture and see just how they were lead through the forest and into the dungeon. The feel the need for controlling the power handle, yet they really do not have a footing yet of how the world turns and they find themselves pouring water on the matchbook while the forest is afire over the hill.

A freshman Rep. carried the bill in noble style, but was too naive to understand what he was doing. Duped? Conjoined? Bamboozled? describe it as you like but these fools chased after some 1-2 individuals to close down open access to public records while the news was being withheld on the bigger finds... that had they been indicted and the word released, may have changed a lot of the laws before the Legislature and the naivety of the newcomers.

I see several platforms that newcomers could run on against the incumbents come 2008/9. At various levels of government. Starting at the school districts all the way up to the state level. That the feds have to get called in to investigate fraud has to be very telling to our elected officials. The corruption has got to STOP!!

HB2564 is the house version of SB889, which our taxpayer advocacy group campaigned against. After everyone testified against SB889, it was left to die in committee.

HB2564 was sneaked in during the 11th hour and voted on - I don't think anyone that voted on it knew what they were doing.

SB889 - author Jeff Wentworth (R) San Antonio

HB2564 - sponsor Jeff Wentworth (R) San Antonio

This bill was being pushed by the Eanes ISD to limit a woman from making FOI requests to the school district.
