Why I dislike red light cameras

I was on my way to grab some lunch just now and I witnessed a wreck. The wreck happened because a driver in a blue Impala hit his brakes to avoid having his picture taken. He was behind a 18 wheeler and could not see the light changing until he was right up on the intersection. There was a white 12 passenger van that was not able to stop in time to keep from rear ending the Impala. I hope they send the repair bills to the COH.

It's always a good idea to allow 3 seconds of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. (ie when the vehicle in front passes a fixed object, count 3 seconds. You should not pass that fixed object until after 3 seconds)

A dog could have run out into the street and caused the blue Impala to hit their brakes. The white van would still be at fault.

The problem isn't with the cameras; it's with the drivers here in Houston.

As do I!

The more laws the country passes, the more criminals we create....

Quote, "Kinky Friedman," when interviewed on Michael Berry's talk radio show last Friday.

Kick ass, Kinky!

Anon, might I also suggest that the traffic engineers might want to consider putting a slave signal to the side so that you can see the signal when you have an 18 wheeler in front of you.

I would suggest the only one at fault here is the van. Regardless of why the car in front stopped suddenly, the following vehicle should have been able to stop. Tailgate driving is never wise, but popular.Had the Impala ran the light he/she might well have hit a car in the intersection....a no-win situation for the Impala driver.
