Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty! Free at last!

Ramos and Compean's sentences have been commuted. They will be going home on March 20th.

I'm glad for both of them and their families. Makes one wonder how many other people Johnny Sutton has unjustly imprisoned by twisting the facts. Sutton is a scuzzball prosecutor and needs to be fired. (Ramos and Campean DID try to obstruct justice, but they certainly didn't deserve 11 & 12 year sentences).

Jean, no, they did not obstruct justice. That is more propaganda coming from Sutton and crew. They did what they were required to do which is report it to their supervisor. it was their SUPERVISOR that told them to pick up the brass and get rid of it. He did not want to file anything with HIS superiors in order to avoid all the paperwork headaches and he didn't want to leave brass on the ground for the smuggler to come back for in order to make a case. Yes there was obstruction of justice, but it was their supervisor that was behind it. He was hoping and betting that they HAD missed and that the guy would never turn up. Personally I'm pissed that their supervisor rolled on them and stabbed them in the back instead of taking responsibility for HIS actions.

The other thing that chaps my ass is the constant refrain that he was shot in the butt. He was NOT shot in the butt! he was shot in the hip from the side. the bullet passed through his left thigh, clipped his groin behind the scrotum severing his urethra and the nerve bundle that serves his penis, and embedded itself in his right thigh near the bone. Frankly he is lucky he isn't dead. The bullet came within millimeters of both femoral arteries. The one saving grace in all of this is he'll never be able to get it up ever again. But the geometry of the shooting is proof that he was not running away. he was standing with his left side facing the officer. That would be the stance you'd take if you were holding a gun in your left hand and pointing it at someone. Davilla is left handed and was well known to never go anywhere without a gun which further corroborates their story.

I'm glad for the clarification, Rorsch. I didn't know about their supervisor. Why didn't HE go to jail? Not fair. I'm glad about the drug dealer, too. I hope he suffers greatly. I hope there's a punishment meted out to Sutton as well. What a creepo.

Notice that Bush did not pardon them, but only commuted their sentences.

More of his half-measures and incompetence.

Aye. I also was hoping that they'd be pardonned, but I guess I was hoping for too much. But it is a shame. As Rorschach said, they were not shot in the butt...but you won't hear that in the mainstream media.

They should've been pardonned. Granted, I AM happy the (wrong) sentence was commuted, but still.

Just my two cents. :)
