Think of it as evolution in action

A guy that was high and burglarizing cars at an apartment complex shot and wounded an off-duty HPD officer, and was found a short time later in a wooded area nearby shot in the head. Apparently his pants fell down around his ankles while he was trying to run away while handcuffed and he shot himself in the head.

Jean, actually, yes I do. The reason? Who else could have done it? The cop was on the ground bleeding. He was in no position to go chasing after the guy. He was working alone without backup so he didn't have a partner that could have chased him down. the guy still had his hands cuffed and pants falling down around his ankles, it is easy to see where he could have tripped and in the fall manage to shoot himself, especially if he was not following proper gun handling procedures such as keeping his finger off the trigger. When he was found he was already dead and too many people would have heard a gunshot were he not.

They say truth is stranger than fiction, Rorsch, but how does someone shoot a cop with his hands cuffed behind his back? How did the cop miss him having a gun? If his lowriders are so low, where could have even hid a gun? Too many unanswered questions. I have no sympathy for someone hopped up on drugs and stealing, but how did he get his hands that were cuffed behind his back to being in front of his person? The guy was obviously a trashed out druggie, so no loss to society, IMO.

I'm sorry a cop got shot, but not very....Sounds like he was remiss or careless. He should have called for back-up instead of trying to play super-hero. Some how I don't believe a car battery is worth being killed over.

Jean, if you are handcuffed behind you, all you have to do is roll yourself up into a ball and you can get your hands in front of you by moving them down and around your butt and feet. That is really not all that hard, especially for a young man who is so high that pain means nothing. Even in my decrepit state, I could do it. The first step in arresting someone is to get them cuffed, then while you have them cuffed begin a pat-down for weapons, I presume that the officer was in the process of doing that and was probably bent down checking the legs when he pulled the gun out of his waistband (of his underwear, not his pants) and shot him.

The cop was working security at the complex while off-duty. He might not have even had a radio to call for backup on, but even if he did, right up until the gun came out, he probably felt he had the scene well in hand.

Valid reasoning. It's a dangerous world out there and if the cop survives, I recon he'll have learned an invaluable lesson or two.

Can't say as I blame them for wanting to shoot first and ask questions later. Anyone who wants to be a cop has a little something wrong with them to begin with. LOL. Sorry - I just don't buy into altruism. It's gotta be an huge ego trip.
