Call to Protest goes unanswered

Ladies and gents, a while back I posted a Call to Protest in the hopes that those of us who oppose continued illegal immigration would stand up and be counted. I had hoped that such a call would be picked up and trumpeted around the local blogsphere in an effort to garner attention for the cause. Apparently I misjudged the general citizenry of Houston. I recieved a total of 13 favorable responses compared with the tens of thousands of illegals turning out on a nearly daily basis. This is beyond sad. This is pathetic. If we cannot turn out a similar number when the national and local polls clearly show better than 75% of the populace are against illegal immigration and amnesty, I question whether we have the moral right to even govern this nation. I figured this protest would be a slam dunk. Clearly I was badly mistaken. If we hold such a rally and only a dozen people show up (if that), what will the message be to the media who clearly are pandering to the illegals? What will that tell the politicians who apparently are pandering to them as well? We just don't give a damn, that is what. I give up. I'll continue my calling an cajoling of the politicians, but I am tired of trying to stir Americans to do anything but sit on the sidelines and bitch about the outcome.

My Free Republic post, responses, and counter-response.

I think we need to subtract the red and blue from Old Glory while we're at it.

The old "frog in a pot of water about to boil" adage comes to mind.

Some good news to come out of those protests (from a Zogby poll):

"Asked whether the protests have made likely voters more or less sympathetic toward undocumented workers, 61 percent said they're less likely to be sympathetic to the plight of illegals as a result of the protests, while only 32 percent of respondents said they're now more sympathetic."

With luck that will translate into some action in Congress.

Ror*,

I don't think that you've taken into account that the pro-illegal immigration side is very well funded. There are a lot of hidden agendas that are helping fuel the fire.

Maybe a better approach would be one that Protest Warrior has taken.

By the way, I've always thought that the primary focus should be locking the borders down (with a wall, more ICE, maybe military) and let the 12 million illegals know that we aren't going to bother them, but they don't have a chance in hell of ever getting citizenship unless they go through proper channels in their native country. If they really want to be Americans they can sneak back to Mexico and do it the right way.

Don, no I DID know they were being VERY well funded by people like George Soros and International ANSWER and La Raza and MEChA and SEIU (yes the very same union that is trying to get the right to represent all the city workers). I've been commenting on who was paying for all this over on LST for some time.

My thinking is this. It needs to be done in clearly distinct stages. leave out any step and it all falls apart. get any of the steps out of order and it falls apart. Congress needs to first close the border, Then it needs to increase the penalties and enforcement on those who hire illegals, then after a waiting period for those steps to run thier course, change the immigration laws to make it easier to become a citizen legally, but they have to start out in thier native country.
