A new Generation...err... generator....

My neighbor, who will be riding it out with his ex's parents, a couple in thier 90's, as house guests, mentioned he had a decent sized generator. I figured I'd pay him a visit and ask if he'd consider a monetary arrangement to let me plug in once in a while to keep the freezer and fridge cold. He told me no...but offered to sell me a (much) smaller (but still adequate for that purpose) one he had bought and never used. Knowing new ones of a similar size were selling for $700 bucks, I was skeptical it was worth it... I kept asking him how much. He hemmed and hawed and eventually told me to make an offer. I thought I lowballed him with $50, expecting to dicker some, but he accepted without even flinching. Damn, shoulda offered $25.....

Best of luck to you, Rorschach.

I hope you come through this with minimal fuss, but great stories to blog about.

Thanks Pigilito, I appreciate it. The latest track shows it passing over Baytown/Liberty/Orange area. If that happens, we may only see cat1-2 winds here but from the east and north instead of the south and west. But as I've been saying for a while, that area is refinery alley. Gas is going to be expensive for a while......

SLightly OT, but I imagine you'll have some down time while riding this out. And I notice that you love reading. So let me recommend a book I just finished: The Radetzky March by Joseph Roth. It was recently translated from German. It got nice reviews and is a fine read. It is fiction set in the last years of the Austrio-Hungarian empire.

Hmm, I'll have to check that one out. I actually bought a couple Michael Connelly Heronimous Boch series books to read while waiting for the "fun" to begin.

I've been watching the local blogs and how others are hemming and hawing about "should I stay or should I go now" (Hey! isn't that a song?). Ol' Lair Simon has been having kittens about whether he should leave or not. I think at this stage of the game, unless he can finangle a ride on the news chopper at his wife's place, there isn't a snowball's chance in Houston of getting out of this place before the fun begins.
