Taking one for Team Gilbane

A little bird tells me that Maria Flotte O'Neil has tendered her resignation from the NHMCCD board. It would appear that she has decided that her connection to questionable bidding activity via her husband is not worth the grief this blog and others have been giving her about it. Or perhaps since her husband no longer appears to work for Gilbane, her usefulness directing business to Gilbane has come to an end. Either way, Buh-Bye!

Lets hope that an interim replacement is not a FOB (Friend of Bates), like that harpy Charlotte Lampe (or should that be Lamprey? You know, a blood sucking parasite that will literally bleed it's host to death.) who I suspect was asked to run against Fred Blanton in order to dilute the anti-incumbent vote to protect the incumbent. She had in fact donated money to the sitting board members which shows she was really in bed with the incumbents all along. She may even have believed she was running of her own accord, but I think the board was using her all along. She wasn't smart enough to realize that she was a pawn in their game.

After all the crap that the board pulled to defeat Fred Blanton, he deserves a chance to try to clean up the joint.

As a former volunteer on the Blanton team, which did get Holsey elected, I would certainly second the motion that Mr. Blanton be given an opportunity to serve as a trustee at NHMCCD. I will surely gag to death if Lampe is appointed to the board! If Bates supports her (she ran against him! sure she did: wink, wink, nod, nod),we know exactly what side her bread is buttered, eh?

Adios O'Neil....... Don't let the door hitcha on the way OUT!

Woof!

While we are on the subject of board members that are in bed with contractors, we really should take a look at David A. Vogt. You see, he is in bed with so many architectural firms, you'd think his Conflict of interest forms were a whore's little black book. It took three pages to list all of the firms that he has conflicts of interest with. Again, this begs the question, if he can't vote on any construction projects because he is in bed with all these architectural firms, why is he on the board? In fact back in 2004, several of these firms donated money to a PAC that in turn donated money to him (among others). Think maybe that they figured they'd be getting their money's worth?

One other point and this is true of ALL the board members. The board is an unpaid position, but somehow, the district has decided to give each and every board member FREE medical/hospitalization/dental insurance. But the Governor has vetoed it and John Pickelman is none too happy about it...

How much money has been paid to Gilbane in the last 6-7 years or since O'Neill has been on the board?

NHMCCD Board Member Suddenly Resigns.... Perhaps more to come?

The resignation of NHMCCD Trustee Mrs. Maria Flotte O'Neill, according to Item #24 of the October 4th board agenda, raises several questions. Public records requests over the last three years revealed possible conflict of interest for Mrs. O'Neill regarding her husband, Wayne O'Neill. Mr. O'Neill is or was employed by Gilbane Building Company as "Senior Manager." In that position Mr. O'Neill oversaw and worked hand in hand with many possible contractors, designers and personnel that also worked on NHMCCD activities.

Texas state law regarding a spouse's employer, where more than 5-10% of their income is derived from, would have prohibited board trustee, Mrs. O'Neill, from participating, even by the many consent agendas from participating in any activities involving construction and activities with
those same contractors and designers.

The big question looming is how much involvement and or conflict of interest did Mrs. O'Neill's tenure on the board create? In light of the possible conflict of interest created by her husband's employment many want to know did she recuse herself from voting and participation on the numerous
contracts given to Gilbane Building Company. These questions and others
raised by the revelation of public records request cry out for a public investigation or at least a clarification of Mrs. O'Neill's behavior while a trustee.

With the retirement of former Chancellor John Pickleman, who appointed Mrs. O'Neill to the board in early 2000, it has been speculated upon by reformers, that Mrs. O'Neill no longer felt that her effectiveness in allegedly directing college business toward her husbands employer was possible.

Fred Blanton, a local businessman and former candidate for Mrs. O'Neill's seat on the board of trustees has been proposed by critics and reformer's of past district decisions, as the one best candidates to replace Mrs. O'Neill.
Blanton, when questioned by this reporter said, "It is time to move the College System forward with fair and open bidding practices and get the most for the taxpayer's dollar."
