Doing the right thing

I applaud what Chris Baker, afternoon radio talk show host on KTRH, is doing. Baker, with the permission of his bosses at Clear Channel, but without their implicit support, is running a benefit for Deputy Richard King who is up on charges of attempted murder for the shooting of Simon Gutierrez Jahuey. Jahuey was fleeing in a minivan, with officers in a chase that reached speeds of over 100MPH for half an hour. He was suspected of molesting a 13 year old girl. It was thought at the time that the girl was in the van with him at the time. It turns out that he had just dropped her off, but nobody knew that at the time. The parents have since taken the girl out of state to prevent her from testifying against Jahuey, who was the estranged husband of the girl's aunt, forcing the DA to drop the molestation charges. Deputy King managed to pull alongside the van and fired into the driver's area and struck Jahuey in the neck, ending the chase. Now the DA's office has brought Deputy King up on attempted murder charges. Chris Baker is collecting money to pay Chris Tritico to help defend Deputy King. He has started a legal defense fund here:

Richard King Benefit Fund
Crosby State Bank
PO Box 929
Crosby, Texas 77532

Let's not let the DA put a good officer behind bars for protecting the public from predators like Jahuey.

Like the border patrol agents:

You were told the number one rul about weapons:
Do not use them unless your life is threatened and you only.... ONLY shoot to kill....

THat would bring an end to the costily litigation and humiliation.
